Looking Beyond Diamonds: Choose The Right Stone For Your Engagement Ring!

Diamonds have an image of purity and light. They are given as a pledge of love and worn as a symbol of commitment. — Peter Singer

It’s hard to imagine an engagement ring that doesn’t have diamonds!

However, buying a diamond ring might burn a deeper hole in your pocket than you like!

The good news is that the modern bride is more than willing to explore other options… ‘Unconventional’ is in! And there are other options that are as striking and ‘eternal’ as the coveted diamond.

Let’s take a look at the stones you can choose from, to make your engagement ring the object of envy!

1. Diamonds

Of course, the diamond continues to be a favorite among the ladies! It is the hardest substance on earth, making it a symbol of eternity! And it is versatile too… It looks equally resplendent in vintage, as in modern jewelry.

Diamonds represent beauty, strength, celebration and trust — all that we look for in a relationship, and a marriage.

If you want a diamond ring that’s unique, take a look at the engagement rings with diamonds collection.

2. Morganite

A stone that’s trending all over the world, Morganite will charm you with its glorious hue! Named after the renowned financier J. P. Morgan, its rose gold color lends an elegance that makes it ideal for an engagement ring. It can be paired with yellow as well as white gold, and even diamonds, thus giving you varied options.

The Mohs scale that tests scratch resistance, rates Morganite at 7.5 to 8. With diamonds at 10, Morganite comes close in terms of hardness and dependability! In fact, Morganite is a great alternative to a diamond and comes at a much lower price.

Choose from a variety of charming designs with Morganite as the center stone!

3. Moissanite

It was in the late 1800s, when a beautiful stone that looked exactly like a diamond, was discovered. Moissanite is not just as radiant as a diamond, but also as hard, with a Mohs Scale rating of 9.5! More so, it falls in the same price range as Morganite.

Although Moissanite occurs naturally, the stones are lab-grown today, thus earning the nickname ‘man-made diamond’.

Moissanite, when combined with diamonds, represents all that you value in your relationship — trust, beauty, longevity, and reliance.

4. Ruby

This blood-stained stone was discovered in the 1980s. Ruby is one of the traditional cardinal gems. It is the most desirable gem with a Mohs hardness scale of 9. This makes it ideal for an engagement ring.

These days, almost all rubies are treated in some form, with heat treatment being the most common practice.

However, in terms of cost, large gem-quality rubies can be more valuable than comparably sized diamonds, since they are definitely rarer!

5. Sapphire

It was discovered in the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It is the third hardest mineral after diamond and moissanite with a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. The classic ‘blue’ sapphire may even be as expensive as a diamond!

They may be created synthetically in laboratories for industrial or decorative purposes in large crystal boules.
